Reich Springen

Mersault becomes a person at the end of chapter 3 in part 2 if to become a person, you must give your existence essence and essence comes after existence.  He finally leaves behind his life of content (aesthetic) and enters the realm of thought. This is caused by how poorly Mersault’s trial goes. Mersault realizes his guilt during the trial and due to it is unable to only stay in the aesthetic realm. Mersault goes back to prison knowing that his life will never be the same and that the content he once had is gone. He is going to have to think and follow a set morals to survive in the realm of thought. This realm gives an essence to things and is the reason that through being forced into this realm Mersault becomes a person.
