Fenrir was born in Alfheim. He was conceived as a way
to unify the Vanir and Aesir wood elf tribes. The two tribes had been at odds
with each other as long as anyone can remember. His mother was the daughter of
the Vanir’s shaman and his father was the Aesir’s greatest hunter. Yet while
their union brought peace, old grudges are hard to get rid of. From the moment
Fenrir was born he was hated. He had few friends his age and had to always have
a bodyguard with him. Yet things only became worse as he grew up. Fenrir
quickly showed aptitude in anything presented to him. He was able to read,
write, and speak both Elven and Common by age 3 and knew how to use a sword and
bow by age 8. Yet he was most hated for his affinity for the nature. Due to his
mixed bloodlines he was able to tap into the powers of nature and due things
like predict the weather and know where every animal in the forest around him
was. Due to his power both tribes wanted Fenrir as their own. Fenrir’s parents
knew Fenrir needed to stay neutral and thus made sure he was raised to be good,
kind, but also disciplined. He was given the best education learning from the best
members of both tribes, but at the end of the day always had to not get
attached too much to either tribe. Luckily for Fenrir, he was able to befriend
the fey of Alfheim. They rarely showed themselves to other races, but they took
a special likening to Fenrir. They taught him in secret their native tongue
Sylvan, as well and the sacred language Druidic. They also secretly taught him
the ways of a druid. Of all the fey Fenrir’s favorite was the orphan sprite Moira.
She was like a younger sister to Fenrir. Using illusion magic Fenrir would occasionally
bring Moira into his village so she could experience life outside of the
forest.
When Fenrir was 15 he had to go through the trial of
manhood. It was a test a boy had to pass to become a man that both tribes had. The
test comprised of going out with all the other 15 year old boys on the day of
the winter solstice and coming back with a trophy of the greatest animal they killed. The greater the trophy the greater the
man. While thinking of what to hunt Fenrir decided he would take a long walk
away from the rest of the boys. Little did Fenrir know, Freyr of the Vanir and Höðr of the Aesir, had decided
to ambush Fenrir. They took all of his supplies, beat him up till he was at
death’s door, and left him to die in part of the wilderness far away from any civilization.
Fenrir was furious.
He used his druid magic to heal himself and then set off to track his
attackers. Using magic and skill Fenrir tracked them to the den of a dire wolf.
As Fenrir approached he saw that they had brutally and unapologetically killed 5
dire wolfs from den. Even more enraged Fenrir jumped down from his tree perch
and using his makeshift weapons and druidic magic Fenrir killed all of the boys
that attacked him. Then Fenrir felt the faint presence of an animal coming from
the den. Fenrir rushed inside and found a baby dire wolf hidden behind a group
of stalagmites. Fenrir named it Dirus and fed it some of the remains of the dead
outside. Fenrir took back the heads of his victims to his village. Horrified by
what he had done the two tribes tried to banish Fenrir, but Fenrir told the
tribe how Freyr and Aesir had attacked him and then broke the hunter’s code with
the way they killed the dire wolfs. After talking it over the elders decided
that Fenrir was to go to the druids on Mount Heimdallr in the mountains of Alfhiem.
They would decide his fate. After leaving his home Fenrir traveled to the home
of the fey to say goodbye to Moira. She told him that she was not going to let
him go alone. So of Fenrir, Dirus, and Moira went to see the druid circle of
Heimdallr.
The leader of
the druids Odin after hearing Fenrir’s case decided that he would train with
the circle and be given the title of Reaper. That title signified that he had
been chosen by nature to have the power to deal death. After years of training
Fenrir set out on his journey with his wife Moira, his pen Dirus, and a hallowed
totem from Odin. The totem had been formed from the essence of life. It was the
totem of the reaper the totem of the great wolf, the totem of FENRIR!
